Happy Mom Habits

Practice Self-Care

It’s essential to take care of yourself; otherwise, you won’t have the energy or patience to take care of your family. Take time each day to do something for yourself, whether it’s taking a long bath, reading a book, or practicing yoga.

Our Favorites: We love to doodle and draw. It’s a simple activity that can really get your mind off of things!

Stay Organized

Being organized can reduce stress levels and help keep your household running smoothly. Make lists, prioritize tasks, and declutter your home regularly to maintain a sense of order and calm. The habits of happy moms include staying organized!

Our Trick: Pick one area each week to declutter. It could be a drawer, a closet, the center console in your car – anything!

Cleaning out the clutter will make you feel good!

Cultivate Gratitude

One way to be happier is by focusing on the positive things in your life. Take time each day to reflect on what you’re thankful for, whether it’s your family, your health, or your job.

How We Do It: We use gratitude journals to jot down simple things we’re grateful for each day.

Connect with Others

Motherhood can be so isolating at times, so it’s important to nurture relationships with friends and family. Set aside time to catch up with loved ones, whether it’s over the phone, text, online, or in person.

Our Trick: Plan a time to go for a walk with a friend – virtually! We hop on the treadmill and call a friend to chat while we’re both walking, even though we’re thousands of miles apart.

Take Breaks

It’s okay to take a break from parenting duties once in a while. Whether it’s hiring a babysitter, asking a family member for help, or simply taking a nap while your kids are at school, make sure you give yourself some time to recharge.

How We Managed It: We schedule one day a month for downtime and make sure childcare is covered while we get a massage, go read a book in the park after stopping for a coffee, or just going for a walk by ourselves.

Practice Mindfulness

Being present in the moment can help you appreciate the little things in life, and reduce stress and anxiety. Try meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply paying close attention to your surroundings to cultivate mindfulness.

Our Trick: Put your phone down! Seriously. Having a phone in your hand all day can really rob you of your peace.

Get Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep can take a toll on your physical and mental health, so make sure you’re getting enough shut-eye. Create a relaxing bedtime routine, avoid screens before bed, and aim for at least seven hours of sleep each night.

Our Tip: Switch off weekend mornings with your spouse. One morning you sleep in, and he gets up to take care of the kids, and the other morning you get up while he sleeps in.

Embrace Imperfection

No one is perfect, and that’s okay! Remember that you’re doing the best you can, and forgive yourself when things don’t go as planned.

Our Advice: Being a happy mom does not mean being a perfect mom. You are perfect in your imperfections!

Have Fun

Being a mom doesn’t have to be all work and no play! Make time to have fun with your kids, whether it’s playing board games, going to the park, or taking a family vacation.

Our Tip: Keep a jar of bubbles on hand and turn things around by blowing bubbles when you’re starting to have an icky day. It will make you and your kids smile.

Practice Flexibility

Motherhood is full of surprises, so it’s important to be flexible and adaptable. Learn to let go of expectations and go with the flow, and you’ll find yourself enjoying the journey more.

How We Do It: Sometimes flexibility just requires some deep breathing and another cup of coffee.

Being a happy mom requires developing healthy Habits of Happy Moms that nurture your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. By incorporating these ten habits into your daily routine, you’ll be on your way to a more joyful and fulfilling motherhood experience.
